- On the following pages you will find some important advice to consider when renovating wet areas...
The importance of preparation work...
Preparation work – The preparation stage of renovating a bathroom provides a solid foundation for quality work. By getting this initial stage right, all of the finishing work will fit together like clockwork, get it wrong and the result will be a poorly finished job that will make you feel like it has been a total waste of time and money.
For example wet areas such as Bathrooms and Laundries are the only rooms in your house that are under constant threat of damage from water, and often the damage is already done by the time you realise that their is a leak a couple of years down the track. Some renovators will even take major shortcuts like tiling over old or damaged materials and use inferior products just so they can quote a cheap price.
At Claremont Bathrooms as a standard part of each renovation we totally remove the existing fixtures, fittings, wall and ceiling linings, then once removed, our licensed plumbers, electricians, carpenters, plasterers and water proofers will inspect and make good all services and structure as before installing any of your selected finishes. Our team of tradesmen will also comply with all relevant Australian Standards, and organise any required inspections or notifications to controlling authorities. The end result is a renovation that you will be delighted with, and Claremont Bathrooms will be proud to provide you with a full 7 year warranty for your reassurance.
PLEASE REMEMBER: On a final note, as with anything, you only get what you pay for, and much of the value in a quality bathroom renovation is actually unseen, so be very wary of unqualified tradesmen offering a cheap job. You may pay a heavy price later down the track when you discover what you really got for your money...
QUALITY floor and wall tiling...
Floor and Wall Tiling – The difference between a Beautiful Renovation and a poor finish can often come down to the skills of the finishing tradesman. Wall and Floor tiling is one such trade that has a major impact on peoples impression of the final show piece. Imagine investing thousands of dollars and going through all that work only to have the tiles installed out of alignment or not even flat. In such a case it would be an absolute nightmare to rectify. To ensure a quality result, there are critical issues which need to be addressed well before the tiling starts and during the tiling process.
For Example...
Step 1 Tile Selection – there are many types and styles of Floor and Wall tiles available in today’s market, the choices that you make can be the difference between success or failure for your renovation.
Step 2 Design Layout – this step is carried out in consultation with your renovator prior to the tiler commencing work, to finalise positions, heights, and patterns.
Step 3 – Competent Tilers - Tilers that work in the renovation industry are required to hold a licence issued by the Department of Fair Trading which can only be obtained after completion of a Trade course and years of relevant industry experience.
Step 4 Supervision of Installation – the company that you have contracted to carry out your renovation will provide a qualified supervisor who will inspect the work in progress and issue site instructions to the Tradesmen prior to and during the Tiling work. If all of these steps are followed through there should be no reason that your Tiling work will not be a SUCCESS.
At Claremont Bathrooms we have gone to great lengths to address each of these critical areas of renovation. For example, we have built solid relationships with several quality Bathroom ware Retailers, with modern showrooms and a wide range of products, and trained staff on hand to assist you with your selections. The Tilers we use are all licensed by the Department of Fair Trading and have years of experience in Floor and Wall Tiling. Most importantly with ALL of our renovations we provide constant and Qualified supervision of ALL work, so that the end result will be nothing short of Brilliant.
Insurances, approvals and contracts
Insurances, Approvals and Contracts – With all Home Building work the person you are contracting to do the work for you has legal responsibilities that they must comply with for your personal protection. Insurances – The main contractor is responsible for everybody who is at the home while the renovation is underway, including Sub-contractors, Suppliers and your Family. Therefore it is up to the Main Contractor to have a)Workers Compensation Insurance for his employees, b) to ensure that Sub-contractors have current Insurance, c)To have current Public Liability Insurance for your protection against accidental Damage. For renovations that are more than $12000.00 in value the Main Contractor is to take out Home Owners Warranty Insurance, which is your Insurance against default by the Contractor. Approvals – Most Bathroom, Ensuite and Laundry renovations will not require Local Council, Water board or Work cover Approvals. For example Council approval would only need to be sought when you are undertaking structural changes as part of the work, Water board approval would only be required if you are installing an additional toilet suite, and Work cover would only need to be advised if you are removing Asbestos as part of the renovation. Contracts – Department of Fair Trading requires that any building work in excess of $1000.00 in value that the contractor be licensed and that you have a signed contract prior to work commencing. The licence and contract is for your protection against unfair practices, bad workmanship, should contain a drawing of the works and basically so that you know what it is that you will be receiving.
Claremont Bathrooms is a Fully Licensed and Insured Builder, not only do we have Workers Compensation for our Employees, we continually receive updated statements of Insurance from our Licensed Sub-contractors. We also carry a 10 million dollar cover of Public Liability Insurance. Being a Licensed and Insured Building Company Claremont Bathrooms can handle all matters relating to approvals that may arise including plans, applications and all inspections. In addition to this with all renovation work we insist for your protection on having a signed Contract that will clearly display exactly what we have agreed to do , so there are no hidden surprises once we start.
DON’T RISK YOUR FAMILY AND LIFESTYLE ALWAYS CHECK, WHAT YOU ARE COVERED FOR, WHAT APPROVALS ARE REQUIRED, WHAT IS COVERED IN THE CONTRACT PRICE.
